Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 27, 2025

1. Our Privacy Philosophy

Let's be upfront: we don't want your data. We only collect what we absolutely need to make Gigvis work. We're not in the business of selling your information, and we're not going to start.

This privacy policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We've written it to comply with privacy laws in the EU (GDPR), the US, and Australia, but we've tried to make it readable too.

2. What We Collect

Stuff You Give Us

When you use Gigvis, you might give us:

  • Account info: Your username, display name, email, profile picture (if you sign in with Google), bio, timezone, and language preferences
  • Event stuff: Events you create or add, whether you're attending, your personal notes, and your privacy settings
  • Social connections: Friends you add, groups you create or join
  • Payment info: We use Stripe to handle payments, and they're really good at security. We never see your full card number - Stripe handles all that.

Stuff We Collect Automatically

When you use Gigvis, we automatically collect some technical information:

  • How you use Gigvis: Which pages you visit, what features you use, how long you spend on things - this helps us understand what's working and what needs improvement
  • Device info: What browser you're using, what device, your operating system, and your IP address - standard stuff that helps us make sure Gigvis works on your device
  • Cookies: We use cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. You can control these through your browser settings.

When You Sign In with Google

If you sign in with Google, they give us your email address, name, and profile picture. That's it. We use this to create your account - we don't get access to your Google Drive, Gmail, or anything else.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Run Gigvis and make it work for you
  • Process your subscription payments
  • Show you your events, friends, and groups
  • Send you important updates about your account (like subscription changes)
  • Help you if you contact support
  • Keep Gigvis secure and prevent abuse
  • Follow legal requirements

Here's what we don't do: We don't sell your data. We don't use it for advertising (unless it's related to Gigvis itself). We don't share it with data brokers. We collect the minimum we need, and that's it.

4. Who Sees Your Information

Public Information

If you make something public (like your username, bio, or public events), anyone can see it. That's the point of making it public. You control what's public and what's private.

Friends and Groups

If you share something with friends or in a group (like private events or notes), those people can see it. We respect your privacy settings - if you set something to private, only the people you choose can see it.

Service Providers

We work with a few trusted companies to run Gigvis:

  • Stripe: They handle payments securely
  • Google: They handle sign-in if you use Google
  • Our hosting provider: They keep our servers running

These companies are contractually required to protect your information and only use it for what we need them to do. We don't let them use your data for their own purposes.

Legal Requirements

If the law requires us to share your information (like a court order), we'll have to comply. We'll also share it if we think it's necessary to protect someone's safety or prevent serious harm.

5. How We Keep Your Data Safe

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data. Your information is stored in encrypted databases on secure servers. That said, nothing on the internet is 100% secure - even big companies get hacked sometimes. We do our best, but we can't guarantee perfect security.

We keep your information as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we'll delete your personal information too (except where we're legally required to keep it, like for tax records).

6. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you have certain rights over your data:

See Your Data

You can see most of your information right in your account settings. If you want a full copy of everything we have, just ask us at info@gigvis.com.

Fix Your Data

You can update your information anytime through your account settings. If something's wrong and you can't fix it yourself, let us know and we'll help.

Delete Your Data

You can delete your account anytime. When you do, we'll delete your personal information, except where we're legally required to keep it (like payment records for tax purposes).

Object to Processing

If you don't want us to process your information in a certain way, you can object. Just contact us and we'll work it out.

Withdraw Consent

If we're processing your data based on consent, you can withdraw that consent anytime. This won't affect anything we did before you withdrew consent.

Complain

If you're in the EU and you think we've mishandled your data, you can complain to your local data protection authority. If you're in Australia, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). We hope it doesn't come to that, but the option is there.

7. Kids' Privacy

Gigvis is for people 16 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from kids under 16. If you're a parent and you think your kid gave us their information, let us know immediately and we'll delete it.

8. International Data

Your information might be stored on servers outside your country. We make sure it's protected according to this privacy policy, regardless of where it's stored.

9. Cookies and Analytics

We use cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but turning them off might break some features.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how people use Gigvis. This helps us improve the service. Google Analytics collects information like which pages you visit, how long you spend on them, and what device you're using.

Important: We only load Google Analytics after you've given consent via our cookie banner. If you decline cookies, no analytics data is collected. We've also configured Google Analytics to anonymise your IP address for additional privacy protection.

Google processes this data under their own privacy policy. You can learn more about how Google uses data at policies.google.com/privacy. You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

10. Links to Other Sites

Gigvis might link to other websites (like ticket vendors). We're not responsible for their privacy practices. If you click through to another site, check their privacy policy - we can't control what they do.

11. Changes to This Policy

We might update this privacy policy as Gigvis grows. If we make significant changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. If you keep using Gigvis after we update it, that means you're okay with the changes.

12. Questions?

If you have questions about privacy or want to exercise your rights, email us at info@gigvis.com. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.

For EU users: We comply with GDPR. For Australian users: We comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
